Ceiling Fan Repair & Replacement in San Diego | JV Service & Repair

A malfunctioning, wobbly, dead, or outdated ceiling fan can ruin the comfort and energy efficiency of your living space. At JV Service & Repair, we provide professional ceiling fan diagnostic, repair, replacement and installation services across the greater San Diego area. Backed by a strong technical background in industrial mechanics and electrical troubleshooting, our company delivers reliable solutions to keep the air moving safely in your home or rental property.

Ceiling Fan Repair

Ceiling fans operate continuously under high vibration, leading to predictable electrical and structural mechanical wear. Bringing advanced electrical aptitude to the job, JV Service & Repair quickly diagnoses common performance issues:

  • Electrical & Control Issues: If a fan won’t change speeds, turns off unexpectedly, or hums loudly, the issue is typically a failed wall switch, loose wiring connections, or a blown capacitor.
  • Remote & Receiver Malfunctions: Modern remote-control fans rely on wireless receiver modules tucked into the canopy mount. We trace signal faults and replace dead receivers or reprogram remotes on the spot.
  • Blade & Balancing Problems: Wobbly, shaking fans are a severe safety hazard usually caused by warped blade irons, loose mounting hardware, or unbalanced blades. We realign and balance assembly kits safely.

The Motor Exception: While electrical switches, remotes, and blades are easily repaired, standard builder-grade fans with burned-out internal motors are almost always cheaper to replace entirely. Unfortunately, with modern commodity fans the most common problems with “dead” fans are failed motors and failed capacitors that make replacement more cost effective than repair. UNLESS the fixture is an antique or a high-end designer unit—in those specialized cases, sourcing custom capacitors or repairing the motor components is highly cost-effective to preserve the investment.

Ceiling Fan Replacement

If your current ceiling fan is completely dead, outdated, or making permanent structural noises, swapping it out for a modern energy-efficient model is the best path forward. To give you complete peace of mind, our initial diagnostic fee is completely waived if you choose to proceed with a replacement or repair on the diagnostic call.

  • Standard Replacement (Starting at $150): This covers a standard-sized fan in a standard-height room. It includes assembling and hanging the new fan, as well as the complete removal and disposal of your old unit.
  • Custom Height Variables: Fans located on high vaulted ceilings or requiring a long downrod run will incur an additional cost. (Text us a picture of your current setup for a free, accurate quote!)
  • Structural Upgrades ($200 – $250+ Total Labor): If upon removing your old fan we discover it was unsafely hung from a standard light fixture box and the new fan is too heavy, or will not be safe, the existing hardware is damaged or missing, the pricing will increase to cover the installation of a structural, code-compliant fan-rated box or damaged hardware replacement.

Ceiling Fan Installation (No Current Fan)

Adding a ceiling fan to a room or patio that has never had one before requires advanced technical precision. JV Service & Repair handles new additions safely from start to finish, ensuring your property remains up to strict electrical code.

  • New Installation Pricing ($300 – $800+): Because a brand-new setup requires routing electrical wiring and installing heavy-duty structural mounts, pricing varies based on the complexity of the job.
  • Installation Variables: The final cost depends heavily on factors such as the location of the nearest power source, the desired wall switch location, ceiling access, and whether your property utilizes standard drywall or historic lath and plaster walls. Often times holes will need cut in multiple areas of drywall which will significantly increase the cost of installation. Choosing to not have a switch – and to control the fan by remote-control only will reduce these costs significantly.
  • Code-Compliant Support: We install heavy-duty metal brace boxes that anchor directly into the ceiling joists, guaranteeing your new fan won’t wobble, sag, or compromise your ceiling.
